Water Loss
For municipalities and water utilities, we measure physical and commercial losses in the network, pinpoint leaks on site and reduce losses for good.
In drinking water networks, a significant share of the water produced is lost before it reaches customers, through pipe leaks or unbilled consumption. That loss is both a waste of a scarce resource and a serious revenue loss for the utility.
We carry out water loss programmes in line with the IWA (International Water Association) methodology. We divide the network into measurable district metered areas, locate leaks with acoustic methods, and make the gains last through repairs and pressure management. Because we also build water infrastructure, our own crews can repair the faults we find.

Our services
What we deliver in this field
Water balance and loss analysis
IWA-standard water balance, separating physical and commercial losses, and calculating non-revenue water (NRW) and the Infrastructure Leakage Index (ILI).
District metered areas (DMA)
Designing and setting up district metered areas in the field, with flow meters and pressure loggers at inlet points.
Acoustic leak detection
Ground microphones, correlators and noise loggers to locate leaks that never reach the surface.
Pressure management
Pressure reducing valves (PRV) and time-based pressure control to cut burst frequency.
Metering and commercial losses
Customer meter replacement, smart metering, unauthorised consumption detection and correction of customer data.
SCADA, GIS and hydraulic modelling
Mapping the network in GIS, building and field-calibrating hydraulic models, and real-time monitoring with SCADA.
Water loss
How a water loss programme works
Every network is different, but programmes that deliver lasting results follow the same order.
- 1
Baseline assessment
We prepare the water balance and review the network inventory and meter data to set the loss rate and priority zones.
- 2
District metering
The network is divided into zones with measurable inflows and outflows, and flow and pressure points are installed.
- 3
Leak detection
Minimum night flow analysis narrows down the leaking zones; acoustic surveys and correlation pinpoint each leak.
- 4
Repair and pressure management
Leaks are repaired and pressure reducing valves balance network pressure to prevent new bursts.
- 5
Monitoring and reporting
Zones are monitored continuously through SCADA and remote reading, and results are reported to the utility regularly.
